Just recently, I had my phone stolen. It slid out of my pocket, and was left in a seat. An hour later, I went to find it only to realise it was gone. After police involvement, the use of the Google’s Android Device Manager, and some time door knocking in the vicinity of my phone, it was recovered.
My evening off turned eventful, and I began to contemplate trying to be positive again. I turned to ten of my favourite positive quotes to provide me some optimism in my time of need.
Hovered over a McDonald’s burger and fries at 12 am, I found the following positive quotes useful.
12 Positive Quotes
“Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose.” — Lyndon B. Johnson.
We may not always have the perfect experience, but dwelling on the negative prevents us seeing the positive opportunities to come.
“Pessimism leads to weakness, optimism to power.” — William James.
“A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, and it sparks extraordinary results.” — Wade Boggs.
In academia, we often refer to this as positive spirals. Where one positive action causes a positive reaction.
“When you are enthusiastic about what you do, you feel this positive energy. It’s very simple.” — Paulo Coelho.
Passion and positivity are completely contagious.
“In every day, there are 1,440 minutes. That means we have 1,440 daily opportunities to make a positive impact.” — Les Brown.
Les Brown, a man of many positive quotes, says exactly what we should be thinking. 1,440 daily opportunities to make a positive impact on others. A pretty nice perspective for a former politician.
“You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind.” — Joyce Meyer.
I really love Joyce Meyer’s logic in this quote, and it comes back to those positive spirals. Being positive starts in our minds and turns into our actions.
“It takes but one positive thought when given a chance to survive and thrive to overpower an entire army of negative thoughts.” — Robert H. Schuller.
How do we be positive? More positive quotes
“Virtually nothing is impossible in this world if you just put your mind to it and maintain a positive attitude.” — Lou Holtz.
I’m sure you can think of a time where that one flash of light has overcome the darkness? For me, it’s the willpower to keep running late at night. The thought of a nice warm shower after a jog through the cold Tasmanian winter air.
“When you show deep empathy toward others, their defensive energy goes down, and positive energy replaces it. That’s when you can get more creative in solving problems.” — Stephen Covey.
Covey makes a lot of great points about leadership and being a better person. So, working with people is far easier when you’re positive. Think of a dog. How long can you be angry at your puppy that has great big smile on its face, tongue hanging out of its face. Be positive. Its contagious.
Just to hammer it home. A few more quotes on being positive.
“I hope the millions of people I’ve touched have the optimism and desire to share their goals and hard work and persevere with a positive attitude.” — Michael Jordan.
MJ is the king of being positive. He’s the guy that was told, at a young age, he’d never be a good basketball player. He’s also the player that has two gold medals for basketball. Positivity sustains us, even when it’s hard.
“You can, you should, and if you’re brave enough to start, you will.” ― Stephen King.
Even the prolific author of some of the scariest horror novels is preaching positivity.
“You are the sum total of everything you’ve ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot–it’s all there. Everything influences each of us, and because of that I try to make sure that my experiences are positive.” — Maya Angelou.
Makes sense to me. I’ll leave you with a trailer from Frozen, just to cement the perspective I’m trying to show with these positive quotes. If you liked this post, check out our post on Optimism and being positive.
